UK weather maps reveal August forecast - and it's terrible news for Brits (2024)

The latest UK weather maps have revealed what conditions will be like as we head into August - and it makes extremely grim reading for millions of Britons.

Rain has been hammering large parts of the UK over the past 24 hours, with the Met Office issuing several yellow weather warnings. Temperatures have also plunged in many parts of the country.

But the bad news is that as we get a first glimpse of what’s predicted for August, and conditions don’t look set to be much warmer any time soon.

Brand new weather maps from WXCHARTS show in the early hours of August 1, rain is forecast for many southern parts of Britain - including around London and the south coast including Plymouth and Southampton. Further north conditions will be showery too - including in Manchester and Birmingham.

On the same day, temperatures are also predicted to struggle to send the mercury soaring - and will fall as low as 6C in Scotland around Cairngorms National Park.

In Middlesbrough and the surrounding areas, temperatures are predicted to be around 12C, and even in London, the mercury could struggle to get above 14C.

But Jim Dale, senior meteorologist and founder of British Weather Services, doesn’t think it’s all bad news for sun seekers and is predicting a more stable August.

He said: "Actually things picking up over the next few days, might crack 30C in London on Friday.

"Still a degree of swings and roundabouts for the UK as a whole this side of August.

"However, there has to be a balance and early expectations favour a much better August, warmer/hotter and more settled for longer, though as ever still with some rude interruptions along the way!"

The Met Office offers a long range forecast that covers July 30 until August 13, which says: "Through this period, there remains a slightly increased chance of more settled spells of weather developing at times, particularly in the south, and the likelihood of this has been gradually increasing over the past few days.

“However, there is still a substantial chance of other outcomes too, with more changeable periods also likely.

"Overall drier than average conditions are more likely than wetter than average, and warmer than average conditions are weakly favoured too.”

Meanwhile, southern and eastern Europe are set to remain in the grip of a sweltering heatwave over the next few days, new weather maps show.

The Balkans are also expected to experience blistering heat, while northern European countries including Germany and Scandinavia appear to be spared by the heatwave for the time being.
