Today, we thought we’d mix science and slime and make this slime-a-fied version of the classic baking soda and vinegar volcano science experiment for kids, making a slime volcano!

It was tons of fun making this slime, and my kids thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Set Up the Slime Volcano Base

Start by placing your grass and stones on the tray. Leave a spot empty for the volcano.

Make a cone from paper and wrap it around the top of the jar to make the volcano shape.

Fill the jar half-way with vinegar. Add red food coloring and a few squirts of dish soap.

Place the cone over the jar and tape in place using duct tape. Cover the entire cone in duct tape to strengthen it.

Place the jar in the center of the tray.

Arrange your dinosaurs around the volcano.

How to Make Fluffy Volcano Slime

This recipe is a modified version of our fluffy slime recipe.

Mix two teaspoons of borax powder in a jar filled with water. Stir to dissolve.

In a large jar or bowl, mix 2 cups of glue, 2 cups of shaving cream, and some black and brown food coloring.

Pour half of the borax liquid into the jar and stir.

Once the slime starts to form, remove it from the jar. If it is still sticky, add a bit more of the borax water. You want the slime to be stretchy and pliable, but also firm and dry.

Flatten the slime until it is as wide as your volcano.

Drape the slime over the volcano and let the slime slowly pull down the sides of the volcano.

Open a small hole in the top of the volcano.

When you’re ready to make the volcano erupt, add a couple of teaspoons of baking power inside the volcano.

Watch as the mountain erupts over the top of the volcano and into the tray below.
